Palatinate Forest Trail

The approximately 144-kilometer-long “Palatinate Forest Trail” runs through deep valleys and unspoiled nature featuring spectacular rock formations, stretching from Kaiserslautern to Schweigen-Rechtenbach on the German Wine Route.

Passing impressive sandstone cliffs and fairy-tale landscapes, the trail leads through the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve. The scenic “Palatinate Forest Trail” is particularly well-suited for recharging your batteries and enjoying the tranquility. It is recommended to divide the approximately 144-kilometer-long hiking trail into nine day stages.

Hexenklamm

Although the “Hexenklamm” hiking trail is relatively short at 6.5 kilometers, it offers many natural attractions and idyllic spots. Hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of Pirmasens and France along the way.

Along the way, you can also discover extraordinary flora, such as rare native orchids and wild herbs. The highlight of this tour is the crossing of the Hexenklamm gorge, with its many small waterfalls and impressive rock formations.

Saar-Pfalz Baroque Route

The Baroque Route SaarPfalz has been in existence since 2007; it is approximately 250 km long and connects Baroque and historically developed cultural land-scapes. On the western Palatinate side, it runs through Zweibrücken and Hornbach. In Zweibrücken in particular, the sights can be easily reached and visited on foot. These include, among others, the Residential Palace and the City Museum.

Adolf-von-Nassau Hiking Trail

Following in the footsteps of King Adolf of Nassau, this 17-kilometer hiking trail leads from Göllheim to Rosenthal Abbey. This loop trail is dedicated to the former King Adolf of Nassau.

The hike begins in Göllheim at the Königskreuz, a monument commemorating the anniversary of the monarch’s death, and leads to Rosenthal Abbey, where the king was buried until 1309. There are also several places to stop for refreshments along the way

Burg-Nanstein Trail

A delightful blend of history and natural beauty makes this roughly 13-kilometer-long tour around Landstuhl something special. The “Burg-Nanstein-Weg,” the first premium hiking trail in the municipality of Landstuhl, is truly impressive. Starting in the medieval town, this varied loop trail leads into the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve all the way to Nanstein Castle. The rocks along the trail and the many impressive views are also noteworthy.

For a quick snack along the way, the Burgschänke at Nanstein Castle is an excellent option.

Preußensteig

Many highlights await along this premium trail – Lichten-berg Castle, one of Germany’s largest castle complexes, magnificent views of the Palatinate Uplands, and abundant nature. Along the route of this premium trail, you can discover a variety of boundary stones marking the border between the former kingdoms of Bavaria and Prussia. Those who conquer the many climbs of this challenging trail will also

have several opportunities to enjoy the enchanting views. We also recommend a visit to Lichtenberg Castle, located along the route, where a castle restaurant invites you to linger, or to one of the three museums.

Altschlosspfad

The 10-kilometer premium trail near Eppenbrunn leads to one of the region’s most famous landmarks – the Altschlossfelsen. The highlight of this tour is the approximately 1.5-kilometer-long Altschlossfelsen, which

glows a dazzling red in the evening sun. Passing various lakes and the Bach ohne Grenzen stream, the trail also winds through picturesque countryside. The “Altschlosspfad” is a family-friendly hiking trail on the border with France.

Rumberg-steig

The approximately 11-kilometer loop trail near Ludwigswinkel leads through the former military site “Area 1” to the summit of the Rumberg. The ascent to the summit passes through Area 1, a former NATO special

weapons depot. Further along the trail, you’ll find impressive rock formations with stunning views, several ponds, and the Rössel Spring.
